Chateau des Graviers is without a doubt our most popular Bordeaux of all time. Vintage after vintage since the late 90's we've followed this very exclusive wine and been bowled over by the consistent high quality of this Cru Artisan Margaux. 2011 was a fine vintage in the Medoc region of Bordeaux, rated 91 points by Wine Enthusiast Magazine and only about 3,500 cases were produced of this rich Margaux red. Most of the wine is sold directly from the Chateau to their customers in France. We are very lucky to have exclusive access to this wine here in the U.S. This 2011 is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Cab Franc grown in the deep, gravelly Garonne soil. The vines average around 30+ years of age. All of the grapes undergo a rigorous selection prior to fermentation and a 25 day maceration/fermentation follows. The wine was then aged for 12 months in 25% new French oak barrels. The exceptional and unique terroir of this Chateau insures that every vintage will produce a superb wine. Don't miss it!
Not every vintage can be a home run like '00, '05, '09 or '10. The trick is to find the great wines in the tough vintages for true value... and that is exactly what this Graviers is! Elegant on the nose with black cherry, plum and pretty floral notes leading to a balanced wine on the palate with developed fruit and polished tannins. It is drinking beautifully as is with a little decanting and will certainly improve over the next few years as well.
