Pouilly Fuisse 2014 Les Robees, Domaine Fabrice Larochette
This is a unique wine indeed, Pouilly-Fuisse is the only Burgundy appellation outside of the Cote d'Or to be represented in the Hospices de Beaune yearly auction. Francoise Poisard gave her vines in Pouilly-Fuisse to the hospital of Beaune in 1994, and of course, the Cuvee bears her name. Forty percent of that Cuvee comes from the Les Robees where Fabrice Larochette has most of his vines and where the grapes for this wine are sourced. Domaine Larochette has been a family estate for four generations and the vines average 40 years of age. The wines are made with a pure expression of terroir, this Pouilly Fuisse is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel to retain the vibrant fruit character. The nose shows a distinct minerality along with apple, pear and almonds. Wine Enthusiast Magazine made this an Editors' Choice and scored it 91 points saying "While this domaine is based in Chaintré it also has vines in Pouilly-Fuissé. This wine comes from a 2.4-acre vineyard on the clay and chalk soil that marks this appellation. It is rich, full in the mouth with a mineral texture and lively acidity. It is still young and will be better from late 2017."
Up front this wine exhibits fairly intense aromas of green apple, pear and citrus notes with a hint of wet stone. The acidity carries this wine from start to finish as the clean, green fruit core and minerality round out the palate. Great pairing with shellfish or even lighter poultry dishes with a bit of spice to them.
