Rioja Vina Zaco from Bodegas Bilbainas is a fruit-forward Tempranillo with just enough oak aging to add intriguing notes of complex spice and vanilla. 100% Tempranillo carefully vinified to bring out the rich fruit. A short cold-maceration is followed by a slow, cooler than normal fermentation with skin contact for a full two weeks to extract as much flavor and color as possible. Nine month in French and American oak followed for a complex intermingling of flavors both spicy and succulent. It's a frequent Best Buy selection an even ends up on Top 100 lists. This 2014 shows ripe fruit flavors of black cherry and plum along with toast and roasted coffee. The tannins are soft and overall it's a supple easy drinking red with a lingering finish. Drink now through 2016. A great value!
