Hanna 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, Bismark Mtn. Vyd., Moon Mountain District, Sonoma Valley
Hanna's Bismark Mountain Ranch is high above the City of Sonoma and San Pablo Bay. The unique terroir is both fierce and alluring. The AVA is called Moon Mountain which should give you some idea. Of course in this rugged terrain it's distinctly challenging to cultivate wine grapes so production is tiny. Only 242 cases of this 2013 were made. The 2013 growing season was warmer and drier than 2012 and incredibly successful. The peak summer months were moderate, resulting in steady ripening, good acid retention and intense flavor development. This wine is a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. It was aged 22 months in 100% new French & Hungarian oak barrels. This big Cab shows aromas of ainse, blackberry jam, leather, cocoa, currant, and a hint of mesquite wood. The flavors are black plum, cherry, coconut, and dark roasted coffee. It's full bodied with rich well-polished tannins. Enjoy this with decanting or let it age gracefully in your cellar up to 10+ years. Robert Parker just scored it 93 points saying "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Bismark Mountain Vineyard from Moon Mountain (the Sonoma side of the famous Mayacamas Mountains) is a Cabernet Sauvignon from vineyards planted between 1,700-2,000 feet. This beautiful, striking wine is full-bodied and rich, with loads of cassis, blackcurrants, licorice and big, full-throttle flavors with sweet tannin and impeccable balance. This is another winner."
