Robert Mondavi 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
The name Robert Mondavi is practically synonymous with Cabernet Sauvignon, ever since he pioneered the making of varietal wines in Napa Valley back in the late 1960's. This latest example from the stupendous 2013 vintage, shows the outstandingly consistent quality they've maintained over the decades. 26% of the fruit for this wine is from the To Kalon Vineyard. A blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, aged 17 months in French oak barrels. Antonio Galloni said "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is an attractive, open-knit wine that will drink well relatively early for the year. Dark red cherry, cloves, mint, new leather and cedar are all quite expressive. Succulent and forward, Mondavi's Cabernet Sauvignon is also one of the more approachable wines of the vintage and is a solid value within the high-flying world of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2013 was done with 36% estate fruit."
