Antinori established Tormaresca in the Puglia region of southern Italy in 1998 and from the estate's two vineyards, Bocca di Lupo and Masseria Maime, they've been producing outstanding wines for more than a decade. They use grapes indigenous to Southern Italy, like this marvelous Primitivo as well as blending international varietals. The Antinori team led by Renzo Cotarella, has proven to be very adept at preserving ancient traditions while also applying the most modern winemaking techniques. The name of this wine is taken from a seventeenth century farming estate located near Masseria Maime and it is made exclusively from Negroamaro grapes cultivated on the Masseria Maime estate. The grapes are harvested slightly overripe in order to enhance their phenolic potential. After the crushing, fermentation occurred in stainless steel tanks, temperature controlled and maceration for 15-18 days. After the racking, the wine was transferred in French and Hungarian oak barrels where it aged for 9 months before being bottled. It has aromas of plum and cherry along with delicate balsamic mint and spicy licorice notes. Itís remarkably soft on the palate with rich fruit and spice flavors. The ideal balance and delicate tannins offer a compelling mouthfeel and the flavors linger on the finish.
