Clos Apalta 2010 Bordeaux Blend, Lapostolle, Colchagua Valley
The Apalta Vineyard is the gem of the Lapostolle estate in Chile's Colchagua Valley. Surrounded on three sides by hills and a river on the fourth side it has its own unique micro-climate. Planted back in 1920 it also has deeply rooted grapevines averaging 60 years old that provide low yields of less than 2 tons per acre and grapes with deep complex flavors. It's also certified organic and biodynamic. This flagship wine is designed to reflect the terroir of Apalta. It’s 71% Carmenère, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot and hand crafted in every aspect. The fruit is hand harvested in small cases and the grapes are hand de-stemmed. The French oak vats are filled by gravity and the wine is bottled by gravity without any treatment or filtration. Aged in 100% new French oak. This 2010 was a Wine Spectator Top 100 selection with a 94 point score and James Suckling scored it 97 points saying “The best ever from this highly esteemed estate shows Chile’s carménère can be complex and reserved. Lots of violet and granite character. Full and seamless in texture, it’s made mostly from biodynamically grown carménère.” On Sale!
