J. McClelland 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
John McClelland is a 50+ year veteran of Napa Valley who once headed the California Wine Institute and held leadership positions on the Wine Growers
Association and the Wine Educators Association. He's teamed up with another, Napa vet whose name you may recognize, Mitch Cosentino, to make this namesake wine. The grapes are all sourced from vineyards in the Oak Knoll District. 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 4% Petite Verdot aged 20-24 months in oak. Cosentino oversaw all the winemaking which took place at the Steele Canyon Cellars. The wine scored 95 points in Beverage Dynamics and 92 in Wine Enthusiast Magazine who said "this wine is yeasty and firm in tar, graphite and soy. Leathery on the palate, it sings in blackberry and black cherry around oaky clove. Drink now through 2020."
