Pali 2013 Pinot Noir, Alphabets, Willamette Valley
Pali started as Central Coast "Garagiste" wine by two wine lovers from Pacific Palisades("Pali" short for Palisades). They set up shop at the Lompoc Ghetto winemaking facility and turned out some very special small lots of Pinot Noir. Their wines sold well. Now in their 10th year, they've been able to expand their production and finally build a state-of-the art winery. They branched out from sourcing local fruit as well and found some excellent Willamette Valley Pinot. The grapes for this wine are from the single Willakia vineyard, located in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. 2013 another superb vintage in Oregon but cooler and more typical than 2012; an ideal vintage for beautifully balanced Pinot Noir. The nose shows cherry, pomegranate and notes of forest floor and hints of toast. The earthy character continues into the medium-bodied palate with hints strawberries and more black cherry. Focused, with a good backbone, it's a wine that will unwind gracefully over the next 2-4 years.
