A family owned winery, the grapes are sourced from vineyards with mature vines averaging 35 years of age. Yields are low and the fruit is densely flavored. The grapes are crushed and de-stemmed then fermented in a concrete tanks with wild yeast and without no control of temperature; a natural wine approach with a long, 2 week maceration. Aging is in tank 6 to 8 months and bottled unfiltered. Wine Enthusiast scored this gem 93 points and said "Black and magenta, this wine is opaque in color. Its nose is primary and intense, offering notes of tar, creosote, blackberry and black currant. The palate offers more of the same along with savory, gamey notes. Refined on the palate by its lightly grainy tannins and supporting acidity, this medium-bodied wine is a class act that sports a medium finish. Fit for the table, but enjoyable on its own, this wine works well now." A Steal!!
I regularly consume wine with dinner and I'm little concerned with pairings as what I'm eating is typically light and not very robust. I really prefer red wine and have no qualms about consuming it with fish, chicken, soup or just a salad. This wine is mild, but with just a little acidity to make it interesting. Good price and one of my favorites.
