Located north of the village of Greve in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, the Nozzole estate covers a striking, rugged, mountainous area of about 1,000 acres, a third of which is vines and olive groves. Owned by the legendary Folonari family they bring generations of winemaking experience to these Classico wines. This Riserva is produced from exclusively estate grown fruit. 100% Sangiovese, yields are kept low and the grapes are hand harvested, destemmed and crushed. Fermentation is initiated on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by a maceration period to draw out color and tannins. The wine is racked into stainless steel tanks for malolactic fermentation before aging 16 months in Slavonian oak casks and 3 months in the bottle. This wine shows the unique character of this extraordinary high altitude terroir. James Suckling scored this 93 points saying "An elegant and fruity Chianti Classico with strawberry, sliced orange, and wet earth character. Full body, fine tannins and a juicy finish. Creamy texture. The real deal in Chianti Classico Riserva."
