Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano Riserva 2008 Vigneto Santa Pia, La Braccesca, Antinori
Now owned by the Antinori family, the La Braccesca farm is over 1,000 acres and approximately one quarter is vineyards in the appellation's finest sub-zones for the production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The Santa Pia Vineyard is one of the best. Just 36 acres, the vineyard grows the Prugnolo Gentile clone of Sangiovese that is most expressive of this region's terroir. A slow maceration was followed by 14 months of aging in French and Hungarian oak barrels. The Wine Spectator scored this 92 points saying "Showing some mature aromas and flavors of mulled cherry, cedar, underbrush, licorice, spice and tar, this is complex, balanced and intense, ending with echoes of fruit and spice. Best from 2016 through 2025."
