Along the Tuscan seaboard extending south from Livorno lies Bolgheri. For centuries a marshland, it has established itself over the last quarter century as othe golden coast for the most prestigious Italian wines. It is in this region that Angelo Gaja has begun his new winemaking venture. In 1996, along the road between Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci, Gaja began planting 150 acres of vineyards, primarily. This 2013 is a blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Syrah and 10% Sangiovese aged 12 months in French oak barriques. James Suckling scored this 91 points and the Wine Advocate scored it 92+ saying "Angelo Gaja always presents one of the most exciting tastings of the year. The 2013 Promis (Merlot, Syrah and a small part Sangiovese) reveals all the hallmarks of the excellent vintage. The wine offers a supple and smooth entry that is creamy and delicious. Spice, dark fruit, cherry, blackberry, tar, resin and cola come to attention. The tannins still show some attitude so I would recommend giving this wine a few more years of cellar aging. The intensity, depth and persistency promise many years of forward-looking cellar aging." On Sale!
