Sancerre 2013 Grand Cuvee, Jean-Paul Balland
Only produced in the best years, this Grand Cuvee is a special Sancerre made from the oldest vines on the estate. Jean-Paul Balland is a family owned estate with about 48 acres of vineyards in some of the best areas of for growing outstanding Sauvignon Blanc, Le Grand Chemarin and Le Chêne Marchand. For this wine grapes are carefully selected from a small parcel of Balland’s oldest vines – 45+ years. Hand harvested, the grapes are crushed in a pneumatic press and then the wine is fermented in oak barrels using natural yeasts. Ageing is in 60% new oak casks for 12 months with regular stirring of the lees. Wine Enthusiast Magazine picked this as a "Cellar Selection" and scored it 93 points saying "Hints of toast from wood aging give this wine its richness. It doesn't detract from the ripe apricot and peach fruit flavors while also keeping great freshness. All the elements have produced a ripe, full wine that could still age another year. Drink from 2017."

Beautiful Expression of Sancerre
This one blew me away with its super intense nose of citrus fruit, lime zest and mineral notes all carrying through to the palate. The acid is so crisp and lively and the fruit so well developed, this one is only going to improve in the next several years to come.
