Z. Alexander Brown 2013 Uncaged, Cabernet Sauvignon, North Coast
Known for his band and his music, Zac Brown is a creative spirit who has a passion for bringing music, food, and people together. The next logical step for him was to make wine. For this, his Uncaged series he teamed up with the resources of Delicato Family Wines and Napa Valley Winemaker John Killebrew, who grew up in California, developed a love for nature, gardening, cooking, and music at an early age. As a winemaker, John is able to stay immersed in nature. Working in partnership with Zac and accessing the Delicato's superb quality grapes he’s able to create wines with true character and style that offer a lot for a little. This Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from prime vineyards in California’s North Coast; Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake Counties. The 2013 vintage produced a record-breaking crop of exceptional quality. The fruit was harvested during the cool early morning hours to ensure that the concentrated fruit flavors were captured at the peak of ripeness. Grapes were de-stemmed, moved into stainless steel tanks and slowly warmed to fermentation temperatures. Following the completion of primary and malolactic fermentation, the wine was drained and gently pressed onto a selection of French and American oak. The final blend for this boldly flavored wine was thoughtfully crafted by Zac and John after multiple hands-on tastings and blending sessions featuring a selection of the best lots of the vintage. Tasting Panel Magazine scored this Cab 91 points saying “Soft herbal nose; smooth and lush with vanilla and toasty oak; ripe and balanced with plum and racy acidity; juicy and long." A Dynamite Value!
I have imbibed in many varieties and vineyards produced wine. My problem is that since I purchase from WSJ and one other Wine Club, I am assure that the wine is good to exceptional.
Zac's wine is truly full bodied with hints of several other flavors. The Tannic acid is light and very much to my liking! It is a lovely wine to share with your best friend especially if she does not care for red wine. I could speak about the wonderful complexities and fantastic taste of a truly great future ahead!
