Here’s a wine created by Napa Valley veterans who have worked with many successful brands and finally created their own. They chose the name Aviary as it suggests a natural interplay, as different grape varieties, like different bird species interact and harmonize. From the outstanding 2013 vintage, each component of this wine is sourced carefully from select vineyards in the Valley, but together, they combine into a truly great experience. 45% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, 12% Zinfandel, 6% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petite Sirah and 3% Malbec. The wine was aged 12 months in oak and shows a dark garnet in color with aromas of brambleberries, cassis, cigar box, spice, almonds, and chocolate. The palate features flavors of cherry, dark chocolate and a subtle spiciness that lingers on the finish. Of course the best thing about this supple Napa Valley red may just be the price.
