The name literally means black Riesling. The grape is actually an early ripening mutation of Spatburgunder (Pinot Noir). In France it is referred to as Pinot Meunier. The vineyards are located in Bechtheimer, Reinhessen. An intense "green harvest" helps the vines produce rich and spicy grapes. The resulting wine exhibits a light cherry color, with aromas and flavors of bing cherry, and pepper, with a kiss of vanilla. At 13% alcohol this wine is refreshing and delicious. The Estate has just completed the process of organic certification, and the next vintages released will be 'officially' certified, but organic practices have held for some time now and are another reason to truly enjoy this wine.
