Brunello Di Montalcino 2008 Vigna Del Fiore, Fattoria Del Barbi
Fattoria dei Barbiís single-vineyard Brunello bottling, Vigna del Fiore, was first produced in 1981 for the celebration of the 50th birthday of Francesca Cinelli Colombini, a pioneer and innovator of the family business.
This 14-acre vineyard has been cultivated since the 16th Century. It is one of the most Eastern and oldest vineyard sites in the Brunello zone (planted in 1939). The particular exposition and composition of the soil results in a Brunello with a very elegant bouquet, balance, and added complexity. Following harvest, the grapes undergoe a pre-fermentation cold maceration. This non-alcoholic extraction results in an increased color intensity and stability, softer tannins and more body and aromatics. After 48 hours fermentation begins lasting 16 -17 days and temperatures After racking and malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in small-medium size oak barrels (500 liter) for the first months, followed by two years in large Slavonian oak casks. The wine rests in bottle for four months before release. Just 600 cases are produced. Wine Spectator scored it 95 points saying "Sweet berry and spice aromas and flavors are the hallmarks of this well-structured red, finishing with savory and underbrush notes. Powerful and will require time to absorb the dusty tannins. Shows fine length, ending with tobacco and leafy elements. Best from 2019 through 2035."
