Lyeth 2012 Meritage Red, Sonoma
Lyeth Estate, established by Chip Lyeth in 1981, was one of the first wineries in California to pursue the unique complexity and composition achieved by the marriage of Cabernet Sauvignon and the other traditional Bordeaux varieties known as Meritage. In fact Lyeth was one of the founding members of the Meritage Association founded in 1988, has played an integral role in helping to define this unique style of winemaking. Today, Lyeth continues its legacy of blending in its Sonoma County wines. Blending has become highly respected in the winemaking community. The fundamental principal is that by combining different wines together, the final wine is of higher quality than the individual components on their own. Almost every wine is blended in some way, whether it is a blend of different vineyards, different clones of the same varietal, different lots of the same varietal, separate and distinct fermentation containers or finished wines with different aging regimens. At Lyeth this is the focus, in fact they source from vineyards planted with the sole purpose of blending varietals together in the end. It's aged in oak for added not of complexity and the wine is enticingly supple and smooth. It shows flavors of bing cherry, blackberry and brown spices on the palate. This blend of flavors exhibits a good balance between acids and tannins that end with long sikly finish. On SALE!!

What was the decanter used in this tasting?
Bob H on Jul 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi Bob, unfortunately the decanter used in this Lyeth tasting is just a sample product. However, you can find a great assortment of excellent wine decanters at http://www.wineenthusiast.com/glassware/decanters/wine-decanters.asp
The % of Merlot, etc., that you read from your bottle do not correspond with the % listed in the printed description. Which one is correct?
NITA S on Feb 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I believe what is on the label is correct. Wine Enthusiast (and others) list what is on the label correctly.
What would be the maximum bottle storage age for this wine?
A shopper on Feb 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Great question! While this wine is delicious right now, we recommend aging it for 3-5 years which will allow it to develop a great complexity, Cheers!
Cork or screw on top?
A shopper on Jul 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hello, the Lyeth 2012 Meritage Red has a cork. Cheers!
