Gnarly Head 2013 Limited Edition Red Blend, 1924 Double Black, California
The 2013 vintage produced a record-breaking crop of exceptional quality resulting in mature fruit
with bold flavors and an overall outstanding quality. That's why Gnarly Head chose this landmark vintage to launch this Limited Edition Red. Gnarly Head 1924 Double Black is crafted using grapes from prime vineyards throughout Northern California, specifically the Lodi region, an area long known for old vine Zinfandel. Lodi's climate is ideal for growing concentrated, full-flavored grapes –well-draining sandy soil, warm summer afternoons and cooling nighttime breezes from the Pacific Ocean. The grapes were all fermented slowly in stainless steel fermenters and then pressed gently and racked into a combination of French and American oak to age for several months to further develop layers of complexity in the final blend. Wine Enthusiast Magazine designated this a Best Buy scoring it 90 points and saying "This wine is dark in color, with just a thin red rim. It smells of ripe blackberries, grilled beef and clove, with flavors as dense as the color. For all its color and flavor intensity and fine-grained tannins, however, it feels smooth and velvety on the tongue and is hard to resist, especially at such a reasonable price."
