Chianti Carobbio is located in the Conca d'Oro, in Panzano. Perched on top of a north-pointing hill rising imposingly above Greve. The hill and its houses protect the southern valley from the cold Apennine winds, making it the most favorable for wine production. The peaks of Monte Domini, Poggio Convento, Monte San Michele and Monte Querciabella in the east shelter the vineyards of Carobbio from the winds and damp air from the Arno. The exposure here is to the south so it benefits from long hours of sunlight during the day. This maximizes grape ripening in this high altitude microclimate with an elevation of between 1000 and 1300 feet above sea level. The winemaking is modern state-of-the-art. This Chianti Classico shows character of this unique terrior. It's Sangiovese with 5% Merlot blended in and aged 12-14 months in large oak casks. This stellar wine won a 97 point Platinum Medal- Best In Show, in the Decanter Magazine World Wine Awards for 2016. They said "Everything is in place here, from rounded concentration to a super, fruit-driven finish. The opulent nose is warm and spicy with ripe black fruit and white pepper notes. Ripe and leafy, the juicy palate is packed with tender red and black fruits, smooth tannins and great minerality." Don't miss it!!
Wonderfully smooth. The Tannins are just as smooth.
I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth this wine is . Full bodied an aroma and taste of plumbs and vanilla. I just had a bottle with spaghetti and a heavy meat sauce. It made a meal I love even better.
