This wine comes from the estate of one of Italy’s most celebrated oenologists and agronomists, Stefano Chioccioli. He has produced wines scoring as high as 100 points for prestigious wineries like Tua Rita, Il Borro, Capezzana, Cafaggio, Felluga and many others. Altadonna is his own winery located in Gaiole in Chianti with vineyards in two areas with the most suitable terroir in Chianti Classico: Gaiole in Chianti and Quercegrossa. Under his careful guidance, the estate is run by his two sons. This wine is a Super Tuscan blend of 70% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. He uses traditional fermentation on the skin in steel tanks for 21 days with temperature control. After which he applies micro-oxygenation which softens the tannins adding silkiness to the texture, before aging in French barriques for 16-18 months. James Suckling scored this 94 points saying "This is spicy and rich with lots of pretty ripe fruit. Plum and walnut undertones. Lots of fruit yet remains subtle and bright. Full body, round texture and juicy. Decadent. Balsamic finish. This is a new wine from the two sons of consulting enologist Stefano Chioccioli - Enrico and Niccolò."
