The original Stonehaven facility from which the makers of The Hidden Sea now operate won international acclaim as Winery Of The World at the 2001 San Francisco wine awards. The Winery is surrounded by 86 acres of vineyards on famous Padthaway Limestone. Sourcing fruit from the six flagship regions of The Limestone Coast, and selecting the best grapes from each terroir. Millions of years ago this land was covered by sea. As the sea resided, a bed of limestone was formed leaving in its place a landscape rich with shells, fish and even whale fossils. The nutrient rich, stony soils, layered over fossilised limestone, provides excellent drainage, balanced with perfect water retention. Influenced by the cool, coastal climate and artesian water supply, the grapes naturally ripen, slowly resulting in a bold flavor profile. Winemaker Grant Semmen, has a long history at big wineries. He knows how to create character in a wine and still offer it at a great value price. This 2014 Shiraz is just the ticket. It has ripe berry fruit with savory, spicy nuances, delectable richness on the palate and a balance that lets the quality and character of these Limestone Coast grapes shine through. This is a Shiraz that drinks like it's twice the price. Check it out!
Typically these big Australian Shiraz wines are so extracted and fruit driven, they can be a little too powerful. But this wine is refined and dare I say elegant?! Beautiful red and black berry fruits with tobacco, vanilla and lots of peppery spice. Great balance of acidity and tannins as well... a winner on all levels.
From the moment I took my very first sip of this Shiraz until this very moment I've been religiously faithful to the Hidden Sea brand. The whale illustration on the bottle also speaks to me. I would give it a 7/5 rating. Cheers!
I'm typically a white wine enthusiast but The Hidden Sea's Shiraz has become one of my favorites. Not only is it rich in taste, the finish is smooth with the perfect hint of fruit sweetness and I cannot get enough of the beautiful bottle. Definitely kept it as decor on my bar cart! Know Aussie wine doesn't get cut much slack but The Hidden Sea definitely surpassed my expectations. I highly recommend!
Hi, I love this wine. It easy to drink, medium acidity, great smoothness, and so versatile that it could be paired with so many things.
It is sweet and fruity (Like me) and don't forget the cool packaging that is bound to impress just about anyone. The company has a interesting story that is a great conversation starter and helps explain all the different flavor components that make up each sip.
I will definitely be ordering more around the holidays when I need to entertain.
An Amazing Shiraz with a smooth and amazing taste.
I haven't had a shiraz like this in sometime. This shiraz has an amazing taste and is very smooth. The Hidden Sea Shiraz goes extremely well with any type of red meat, it's simply a must try. Bonus points for the amazing art on the bottle!
I tried this Hidden Sea shiraz recently and was surprised by its remarkable and approachable palate. It's an incredible wine to keep at home for the unexpected guests. I especially enjoyed pairing it with BBQ off the grille this summer.
