Mercer 2013 Sharp Sisters Red Blend, Horse Heaven Hills
Recognized as Washington State Winery of the Year by the Wine Press Northwest, who said "Mercer Wine Estates has tripled its production to more than 60,000 cases of wine, all while raising quality to new levels" Mercer farms some 2,000 acres of vineyards mainly in the prime Horse Heaven Hills AVA of the Columbia Valley. Grape farming spans five generations in the Mercer family. This wine is a blend unique to Washington State where Merlot and Syrah stand out but also combine into something special. 47% Merlot, 41% Syrah and the remaining 12% made up of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot all sourced from estate vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills. The wine aged 20 months in French and American oak barrels. It received a Gold Medals in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the Seattle Wine Awards and the TEXSOM International Wine Awards. Wine Spectator called it a "Smart Buy" and scored it 92 points saying "Broad and distinctive, with orange peel and exotic spice notes surrounding black cherry and licorice flavors, gliding easily against polished tannins on the long, expressive finish. Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2021."
