Francis Coppola Director's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, King Kong
Here's the latest blockbuster from Francis Ford Coppola; King Kong Cab. Well, it's his Directors Cabernet Sauvignon with a slightly different blend and a fabulous new label. Coppola's two greatest passions are wine and movies, so combining them was a natural, creating the Great Movies series. He commissioned artist Laurent Durieux to re-imagine the original movie poster as a label for the limited edition releases. And in the bottle he's added exceptionally ripe Cabernet fruit from San Luis Obispo to the Sonoma Cab that he sources for Director's. The Sonoma Cab gives structure and ripe juicy fruit, while the San Luis Obispo Cab supplies floral notes and red fruit flavors. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 14 months in French and Hungarian oak. It's a stunning collectible so get extra to put on display and meanwhile it shows aromas of warm cedar spice, blackberry pie, foraged wild berries, and toasted marshmallow. The flavors are of lush blackberry, currants, creamy toffee and hibiscus tea. Limited!
This wine has potential; but at two years of age is too young to drink, or even to know exactly how it will turn out. It may be worth buying a case to put away for later, but I would recommend against purchasing this wine if your plan is to drink it now; it simply isn't ready yet.
