Trefethen Vineyards is world famous for their extraordinary estate Cabernet from their vineyard in the Oak Knoll region of Napa Valley. Much like a second label Bordeaux, The Double T label was launched to use the estate fruit that doesn't make it into the main bottling. Grapes for this Double T Red come from the very same estate vineyard but some from the young vines and some are blending varietals that they have more of than they need, but all of it is prime thanks to their exceptional location at the cool end of Napa Valley, and the outstanding 2013 vintage. This blend is 42% Merlot, 38% Malbec, 14% Petit Verdot, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. All of the lots are vinified separately and the wine aged 15 months in 20% new French, American and Hungarian oak barrels. Malbec brings plush fruit characters and a hint of floral with Cabernet Sauvignon providing the backbone, Merlot adds a lively spice and herbal character. Cabernet Franc provides finesse and a peppery perfume and Petit Verdot adds color and structure. This wine was just awarded Best of Class Double Gold 98 Points in the California State Fair Wine Competition!!!
I have just opened the first bottle a few minutes ago. I have made a significant taste. It is great, beyond my expectations. I can recommend it to anyone who appreciates a good wine. It is everything than anyone can expect from Trefethen.. Richard Moseman
We were unfortunate enough to get 4 very "bad" bottles in the case we ordered. However, besides those we enjoyed the rest very much. It is a very rich, less fruit forward tasting wine which is right up our alley when eating beef ribs or steak. Love this wine.
