Enroute 2014 Pinot Noir, Les Pommiers, Russian River Valley
The Nickel family quietly produced Pinot Noir for years under both its Napa-based Nickel & Nickel and Far Niente labels before establishing the EnRoute brand in 2007. After purchasing and replanting a 20-acre apple orchard near Graton in Sonoma County, the family set its sights on acquiring the Amber Ridge vineyard, a source of impressive Pinot Noir bottlings from Kosta Browne and Siduri. This 2014 is their latest release. The name is a nod to the history of apple growing in the area. It's a blend of the family's two vineyards, with additional grapes from Dutton's Manzana Vineyard. 2014 was another excellent vintage and Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 93 points saying "The producerís flagship wine, this is sourced from several Green Valley sites, including Amber Ridge and Manna. Both contribute a full-bodied wealth of packed-earth flavor in a generously layered, rich explosion of dark cherry, plum and pomegranate. Along the way, streaks of citrus and black tea provide exotic interludes."
