Banfi is best known for the outstanding Brunello di Montalcino it produces from The Castello Banfi estate vineyards. This delightful value Super Tuscan red comes in at the other end of the spectrum price-wise and still delivers. A blend of 60% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot with a touch of oak aging. It's a wine that ends up on Best Buy lists every vintage. James Suckling scored the 2013 91 points, this 2014 won a Gold Medal and scored 93 points in the Winemakers Challenge Competition. Great value.
I'm just now exploring wine, and this one was quite delicious. I don't know all the descriptive nomenclature to offer any sort of help. Instead I will say that I enjoyed a bottle with a very nice roasted pork loin with sweet potato mash and brussels. The wine was absolutely perfect with this meal, and I'm very pleased.
