Merry Edwards 2015 Sauvignon Blanc, Russian River Valley
Merry and Ken completed their state-of-the-art winery facility in 2008 on the site of Coopersmith Vineyard. Merry’s focus is on handcrafted wines and site-specific viticulture. This Sauvignon Blanc is one of their most popular wines. More than 50% of the fruit is from vines 25 to 35 years old. Sauvignon Musqué or Savagnin Musqué fruit as it is known in Bordeaux, makes up about 20% of the blend. The wine is barrel fermented with biweekly lees stirring to give the wine richness and texture. Wine Review Online scored this 97 points saying "Merry Edwards' sauvignon blanc is consistently among the top two or three produced in the United States. What sets it apart is its remarkable complexity, structure and harmony. On the first sip you may be reminded of ripe tropical fruits. On the second, citrus notes emerge. Then there is the note of white peach that is a signature characteristic of the finest Bordeaux blanc. On another sip you might find the tangerine and Meyer lemon note that signals Sancerre. Texturally, the wine exhibits a rich, oily mouthfeel, but with firm acidity and telltale traces of minerality. In a word, this vintage of Merry Edwards sauvignon blanc is positively brilliant and delicious."
I first tasted this this sauvignon blanc about a year ago and wanted more. These people had it. I tried to purchase it at several wine stores and was told that Merry was a snob and only sold to selected wine stores. It is a light and very dry white which I like.,
