Viņa San Pedro 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon 1865 Single Vineyard, Maipo Valley
Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2016
A tribute to the founding of San Pedro almost a century and a half ago, the 1865 Single Vineyard wines are a selection of the best grapes from their estate vineyard planted 40 years ago in the Maipo Valley in a zone with shallow, rocky, and well-drained alluvial soils. The vines are vertically trained with controlled drip irrigation. The grapes underwent cold-maceration for five days before beginning alcoholic fermentation with selected yeasts at controlled temperatures. The cap was pumped over four times a day to keep the skins in contact with the must and allow for a slow and delicate extraction. After the tanks were filled, the grapes macerated for 25-30 days. 100% of the blend was aged for 12 months in French (95%) and American (5%) oak barrels, of which 50% were first-use and 50% were second-use. Wine Spectator scored this Cab 91 points along with selecting it for their Top 100 Wines of 2016. They said "Rich and refined, with good cut to the red plum, crushed berry and raspberry flavors matched to notes of sandalwood and cardamom. Creamy midpalate, with a finish that's filled with chocolate and dark currant details. Drink now through 2021."
