Barbaresco Riserva 2011 Pora, Produttori Del Barbaresco
Perhaps the world's most celebrated wine co-operative the Produttori Del Barbaresco, founded in 1956 is today considered one of the most consistent and top quality producers in the region. Now some 56 grower contribute with a very wide array of vineyard holdings. This Riserva is sourced from the Pora vineyard, the 21 acre single vineyard closest to the Tanaro river. The vines enjoy the heat of the morning sun in the summer and a more fertile soil than vineyards at a higher elevation. This microclimate translates to a Barbaresco with approachable tannins. Pora is best enjoyed in the first 20 years of its life. The wine is Fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 85°F with maceration on the skins for 28 days. It is then aged 36 months in large oak casks and bottle refined for eight months before release. Wine Spectator scored it 95 points saying "Broad and brooding, this muscular Barbaresco packs an oversize frame with black cherry, tar, licorice and spice flavors. More about power than finesse, with an extremely long finish. Best from 2019 through 2035."
A favorite in a highly competitive lineup, this outstanding Barbaresco is has finesse and power. The tannins are super velvety. I would love a few bottles to drink slowly and watch them develop over time
