Newton Vineyards is one of the first wineries to be established in the Spring Mountain region of Napa Valley. Over three decades they have produced consistently fine wines building a strong reputation for quality as well as value. This is their red blend, made in a style of a Right Bank Pomerol or St. Emilion. This 2014 is 74% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Syrah, 4% Petit Sirah, 2% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. The fruit is sourced from select vineyards throughout Sonoma County, specific regions including Sonoma Valley, Alexander Valley and Carneros. Select grapes are chosen with a specific characteristics and desired flavor profile to create continuity from vintage to vintage. This Sonoma has ripe fruit dominating the nose with aromas of currant, boysenberry, blackberry and black cherry all intermingling. They are complimented by notes of vanilla, sweet spice and oak. The fruit continues onto the palate where the wine is balanced and bright, with round supple tannins and a nice lingering finish.
