Brancott Estate 2016 Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand
The original New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, Brancott has been producing this outstanding wine since 1979 and it's been a benchmark ever since. Brancott Vineyards have the unique distinction of having planted the first commercial vineyard in Marlborough. And we've all seen what that's led to. This 2016 has not been rated yet but this wine is always consistent every vintage. The 2015 scored 90 points from Wine Spectator who said "Fragrant and juicy, with apple blossom, lime zest and chive blossom notes surrounding a core of intense and refreshing lemon and grapefruit flavors. Drink now."
Pretty good for a wine that often misses the mark.
SAUVIGNON BLANC is a fickle date. Delicate to the point of. Being bland, and often over compensated into the woody and stem range to boost flavor. Brancott Estate is a decent midrange. Not o early Sammy and not weak in taste. For the price I am glad I got a case. I would do it again.
