Rhiannon 2015 Red Blend, Rutherford Wine Co., California
Here's a unique red blend. The 2012 appeared in the Wine Spectator as one of "10 Hearty California Reds" in outstanding company next to the likes of Orin Swift Machete, Carlisle Syrah Russian River Valley Papa's Block, Relic Petite Sirah Napa Valley Old Vines and others, most costing two to three times as much. In fact Rhiannon is the only one under $15. This wine comes from the Rutherford Wine Company who make Rutherford Ranch, Round Hill and several other well known brands. This 2015, a superb vintage, is a blend of Petite Sirah 53%, Syrah 24% Barbera 21% and 2% complimentary red varietals from their grower partners throughout California. It's made in a lush, fruit-forward style and the superb 2015 vintage helped that along. The 2012 was a huge hit, receiving the Chairman's Trophy at the Orange County Fair and a 97 Point Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco International Wine Competition, plus 90 point accolades from Robert Parker. This 2015 is as lush and rich and its predecessor and still a Super value!
I'm usually a Napa Cab fan but this Rhiannon is REALLY tasty and I never would have expected a wine at this low of a price range to taste so good. As the description says, "lush" is a perfect word to describe this wine!
