Redgate 2015 Pinot Noir Estate, Willamette Valley
Redgate Vineyard is a tiny 5 acre estate in the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley started by a husband and wife who were born and raised in the Valley. Retired from their day jobs they now focus entirely on growing grapes and producing small quantities of high quality wine. The 2015 vintage, like 2014 was one of the best anyone can remember. Wine Business Magazine wrote "Once again, the Oregon wine industry experienced another extraordinary, nearly ideal growing season...high yields and exceptional quality." The tiny Redgate vineyard yielded enough first class Pinot Noir to produce just less than 500 cases of this estate wine and we managed to grab a very limited quantity of it. The wine was aged in oak for 12 months and bottled unfiltered. It shows the bright, mouthwatering acidity that is the signature of Willamette Valley Pinots but it also has the distinctive cherry and strawberry notes with earthy undertones that are the hallmarks of fine Pinot Noir. With such limited production you'd expect the price on this gem to be sky high...but you'd be wrong. This may be the best value we've ever seen in Willamette Valley Pinot. Don't miss it!

No Better WV Pinot Value out there!
Seriously, this is quite simply the best under $15 Pinot from Willamette Valley that I have come across. Intense nose with pretty floral notes over the bright cherry core. Fresh acidity plays of the well developed red fruits and peppery spice with slightly firm tannins on the finish. Man, these guys make some great Pinot for the price!

Nice light Pinot Noir
I enjoyed last year's Redgate, so I got this year's release (the 2015) recently. It's a light Pinot Noir with berry (e.g., strawberry) flavors. You can't beat the price, making it a very good everyday drinker. I don't know why this small, boutique winery doesn't charge more for this wine.

Unique for Willamette
Very unique taste for this region. Reminds me of a taste from a valley to the south in Sonoma County.
Very enjoyable.

Good light Pinot
This is a nice Pinot on the lighter and more acidic side, and good value.

Pleasant quaffing wine
This Redgate pinot noir is pleasant and fruit forward. It is light in color and mouthfeel. Although I would say it is a pleasant quaffing wine, perfect for a picnic on a warm afternoon, it doesn't have the body or complexity of many of its brethren.

nothing special
This pinot was more like a Beaujolais in that it had a thin body, not much of a bouquet and minimal complexity. I will not buy this again.

what would you pair this with food wise?
mAke t on Mar 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Grilled salmon would be my first choice. I'd use a balsamic and brown sugar baste or Dijon mustard with a bit of fresh ginger. It would also work with lamb chops. I like to marinate them in EVVO, lemon juice, garlic and rosemary before grilling.
Got a case of the 2014 and loved it. It seems to have a fair amount of crystalline sediment. I've taken care of that by pouring through a wine strainer. But what is it? And is this also
typical of the 2015 Redgate?
JEFFREY R on Mar 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I experienced the same thing. Thought it may have been due to some weather issues while shipping in March to Northern NY. However, the wine was fantastic after filtration and decanting. I plan on ordering another 1/2 case.
