Mercurey 1er Cru, En Sazenay 2014 Domaine de Suremain
The celebrated Clive Coates MW calls Domaine de Suremain one of the best growers in Mercurey whose wines are some of the best values for the money in Burgundy. In the heart of the village of Mercurey in the Côte Chalonnaise is the Domaine de Suremain's 43 acre estate. Family winegrowers for 7 generations, their vineyard plots are situated on the hillsides facing to the south and east, in the heart of the appellation. 75% of their holdings are Premier Cru including the vineyard where this wine is sourced. En Sazenay is a 4-1/2 acre plot at the top of the hill with southeast exposure and clay, limestone soil. Wine Enthusiast Magazine made this a Cellar Selection and scored it 93 points saying "This dark wine is still full of young tannins from a cool, east-facing vineyard. The red-berry fruit is beginning to show through, crisp and tight with considerable acidity. The wine will take time to develop and will not be ready before 2019."
