James Suckling just wrote "Bordeaux roars back to relevance (and excellence) with the 2014 vintage...Bordeaux’s 2014 vintage is one of the biggest surprises of my 34-year career." and in a recent article Wine Enthusiast Magazine said "The 2014 vintage is the year Bordeaux came back to the market. After three less than stellar vintages (2011, 2012 and 2013), this vintage has produced many excellent wines, some verging on superb, with quality that reaches deep into the unclassified estates...Bordeaux has come back with a bang." This wine is a delightful 2014 that showcases the masterful skill of winemaking consultant Michel Rolland. The wine is a Merlot-based blend from mature, 40 year-old vines grown on Bordeaux Right Bank. 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, It was aged in 60% new French barrels for 12 months. Grapes are hand-picked, plot by plot, then meticulously sorted and de-stemmed before placement in stainless steel vats with temperature control. James Suckling scored this 90 points saying "Plenty of espresso flavors, dark fruit and hints of dried flowers. The palate is medium-to full-bodied with a lovely core of fruit, accessible tannins and a clean, lovely finish. Drink now or hold." and Wine Spectator also scored it 90 points saying "Frankly toasty, sporting a mocha frame around a core of warmed plum and blackberry confiture notes. Light tobacco and licorice accents fill in on the finish, where the toast still holds sway. This has the fruit. For fans of the style. Best from 2018 through 2024. Tasted twice, with consistent notes." and Wine Enthusiast Magazine made it an Editors' Choice scoring it 91 points and saying "This is a ripe, fruity wine with its black-currant fruit and balanced sweet tannins. It has a fine elegant texture and juicy acidity. All these elements promise a wine that will be delicious to drink from 2019.
