Gehricke 2014 Zinfandel, Russian River Valley
Gehricke is August Sebastiani's new boutique line. Desiring to get back to his roots the Gehricke wines are all small lot wines, sourced from the finest vineyards that bring a true expression of the terroir of premium wine regions in Sonoma County. This Zin is a prime example. 81% Zinfandel and 19% Petite Sirah sourced from the exceptional, iron-rich soil of the Ponzo Vineyard and aged 18 months in French oak barrels. Only 1,089 cases were produced. Tasting Panel scored this 94 points saying "81% old-vine Zinfandel and 19% Petite Sirah are a striking duo in this 18-month French oak-aged super sipper. Grown in a warm vintage, the succulent notes of sweet peppered blueberries wander out of the glass. The mouthfeel is elegant and sensual: Orange peel and raspberry bring in the ripe, clean, juicy aspect, while brambly brush and sage sense of place and a refined minerality are laced with invisible cocoa tannins."

An Intense Zin with Finesse
This wine had me from the start with enticing aromas of bramble and black berry fruit, sweet spices and hints of dried herbs. Lovely balance of acidity and tannin that are in check with the focused fruit. Long finish with a touch of dark chocolate... killer juice!

Good but not great for the price. A little thin as far as Zin's go.

Drink or hold?
A shopper on Apr 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It's so tasty that we can't help but drink it now! However, if you would like to hold on to it, we recommend an aging potential of 3-5 years, Cheers!
