Clos du Val 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Stags Leap District,Napa Valley
Clos Du Val, French for “small vineyard estate of a small valley,” was founded in 1972 in the renowned Stags Leap District. The winery was first recognized for its Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at the famed Judgment of Paris in 1976, establishing its place as one of Napa Valley’s most iconic winery estates. Still family-owned today, Clos Du Val farms 350 acres of estate vineyards in the Stags Leap District, Carneros and Yountville appellations and continues to craft wines of balance and complexity, showcasing the fruit from the outstanding terroir on which our estate lies. Thier flagship wine, this Stags Leap District Cab is made exclusively using grapes from their Hirondelle Estate Vineyard. This exceptional wine displays the nuanced complexity of a great Bordeaux blend. It includes 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, with an approximate vine age of 22 years for the Cabernet. To capture the graceful essence of this estate vineyard, the wine was aged for 24 months in the finest French oak barrels (50% new). James Suckling scored it 94 points saying "Unctuous red with blueberry, blackberry and hints of vanilla on the nose and palate. Full body, very fine tannins and a fresh, clean and beautiful finish. Better in 2018 but already a joy to taste."
