Carpe Diem 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, Mouiex, Napa Valley
Carpe Diem means "Seize the Day" in Latin and it seems like that's exactly what the makers of this wine are constantly doing. Christian Mouiex and his Dominus winemaking team in Yountville had yet another wine to produce after they were done with Dominus and Napanook Cabernet, and this is it. Grapes were selected exclusively from the best vineyards in world-renowned Napa Valley (perhaps including Napanook?). This 2014 is a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot aged 12 months in French oak barrels. The comparison to Bordeaux is not surprising since Mouiex is also the owner of Chateau Petrus in Pomerol. 2014 was yet another exceptional vintage in Napa Valley. This Cab shows beautiful elegance and expression. Black currant, hints of dried herb and a note of dark chocolate grace the nose. The palate shows a firm but poised texture with notes of black olive, black cherry, cedar wood and cured tobacco. A unique and exceptional wine.
