Chateau Vignelaure 2016 Rose, Coteaux D'Aix En Provence
Château Vignelaure "the vineyard of the sacred spring" is the jewel in the crown of the appellation Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence. The chateau and its surrounding 145 acres of vineyards are located in the wild but beautiful countryside just to the north of the town of Aix-en-Provence, in the south-east of France. It has established a reputation as one of the finest producers in the South of France. The estate is owned by Georges Brunet the owner of Classified Bordeaux Chateau LaLagune. Four grape varieties are grown: Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Grenache and Merlot. The estate is high above sea level at 1000-1400 feet, yet surrounded by hills, leading to a unique micro-climate. The grapes for this rose are specially selected in the vineyard. They are harvested at the ideal stage for rose with bright flavors but maintaining high acidity. This is a dry rose made from 40% Grenache 30% Syrah and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, all organically grown. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this ripe rose 94 points saying "This is one of the classics among Provence rosés. Produced from organically grown grapes and coming from an impressive red wine producing estate east of Aix-en-Provence, the wine is structured and ageworthy with its blend including Cabernet Sauvignon. Rich and full of red fruits, the wine should be drunk from late 2017."
