Tenuta San Leonardo enjoys a temperate climate that benefits from the Ora del Garda wind. San Leonardo has approximately 50 acres of vineyards planted with international varietals that thrive in the varied microclimates of the estate. The majority of the vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, but Carmenere, Cabernet Franc and Merlot are also abundant. Cultivation is focused on low yields and highly concentrated grapes. The resulting wines have a great depth, concentration and an aristocratic finesse that can go toe-to-toe against the world’s finest Bordeaux blends. This is just such a wine. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Carmenère and 10% Merlot. Hand harvested grapes are softly pressed and fermentated in small cement tanks, macerating on the skins for 15-18 days. Aging is for 24 months in French oak barrels(new and second use). Each varietal is vinified and aged separately. Blending takes place after a strenous selection done barrel by barrel. The Wine Advocate scored this 2010 95 points saying "San Leonardo was not produced in 2009. The 2010 San Leonardo (Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Merlot) is a seamless and polished wine that shows the best of this estate and this vintage. This is a profound and lasting wine with a bouquet that opens to dark fruit tones backed by spice, leather, tobacco and polished river stone. It tastes very young now but offers good material (in terms of richness, acidity and structure) to promise a steady aging evolution ahead. This edition of San Leonardo is gorgeous with a capital G."
