From the time of Ancient Rome to the present day, the Argiano estate has been part of the history of Montalcino, becoming one of its most prestigious producers and a valuable ambassador for its wines around the world. Today, Adriano Bambagioni, Argiano’s supervising cellar master for over 20 years, and enologist Alberto Antonini guarantee the quality and reputation of the Argiano wines. The estate has 125 acres under vine. The vineyards enjoy year-round southern exposure and soils with marl, limestone and clay. The constant breeze from Maremma to the west provides the ventilation in the vineyards needed for the healthiest Sangiovese grapes. At over 1,000 feet above sea level, the vineyards experience regular night cooling which assists in the slow but steady ripening of the grapes. This Brunello Di Montalcino is aged 30 months in big casks, plus a short step in concrete vats for stabilization and one year in the bottle before the release. This 2012 received rave reviews including 94+ from the Wine Advocate who said "The Argiano 2012 Brunello di Montalcino does a great job of interpreting the vintage and of showcasing its special microclimate on the southern flank of the Montalcino appellation. Both these elements point to warm-climate Sangiovese. and Argiano accepts that challenge with creativity and expertise. This is a proud expression of the grape with thick texture, determination and a succulent approach. Aromas of dark cherry, moist earth, tobacco and grilled herb lift from the bouquet. Bright acidity marks the close. The wine still carries its baby fat and needs a few more years of cellar aging in order to fully express itself." and 96 from James Suckling who said "Fantastically complex aromas of spices, dried flowers and plums follow through to a full body, integrated and polished tannins and a superb finish. This is a 2012 Brunello with it all. Drink in 2018."
