Vino Rosso 2015 Red Blend, Charles Smith, Columbia Valley
Here's Superstar winemaker Charles Smith doing what he does best; finding prime fruit in single vineyards around the sub-AVA's of the Columbia Valley and Washington state and putting it in the bottle at heart-stopping value. This delectable blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese is sourced from Wyckoff Vineyard, on the northern slope of the Yakima Valley. The soils there are made of sandy loam and broken volcanic rock that produce amazing Sangiovese. The Kestrel Vineyard, also on the northern slopes of the Yakima Valley at 1100 feet elevation and Frenchman Hills Vineyard planted in 1998 north of the Wahluke Slope at 1650 feet. The wine was fermented 100% whole berry on native yeasts, 31 days on the skins. It was aged in 20% new oak barrels on the lees for 9 months. Wine Enthusiast Magazine made this a "Best Buy" and said "This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Sangiovese pops with fruit-forward aromas of blue fruit, red currant and herb. It packs a mouthful of elegant, somewhat angular, fresh fruit flavors, bringing a whole lot of appeal and tapering slightly toward the finish." QPR Alert!
