Winemaker Kristy Melton was thrilled to join Jackson Family Wines to produce Fortress. She has won multiple international awards, including Wine Enthusiast’s "Top 40 under 40 Most Influential People in Wine" and Drink Business’ "Top 20 under 40 Best Winemakers in the World". She earned her MS in Viticulture and Enology from University of California at Davis in 2007 After holding positions at Iron Horse, Seresin Estate and Saintsbury, she joined Clos Du Val as Assistant Winemaker in 2010 and was rapidly promoted to Director of Winemaking. For Fortress she is sourcing more than three quarters estate grown grapes from JFW vineyards in Sonoma. Proud of their Sonoma heritage, this wine is one that shows off Sonoma’s exceptional Cabernet lands, especially as the terrain climbs up toward the ridges of the Mayacamas Mountains. The winemaking itself is carried out in a minimalistic way that represents the vineyards and vintage. The wine aged 12 months in French oak barrels. Anthony Dias Blue in Tasting Panel Magazine scored this 90 points saying "Smooth, ripe and spicy with rich plum and toasty oak; blackberry, plum and cassis fruit; balanced and long." Beautiful Cab!
