About Bella Union 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

Bella Union was founded in 2012 by the partners of Far Niente and Nickel & Nickel, who, for more than 30 years, have been growing and making some the best Cabernets in the Napa Valley. Bella Union is the next step in their evolution as Cabernet winemakers. Bella Unions origins lie deep in the history and geology of the Napa Valley. Located in Rutherford along Bella Oaks Lanehallowed ground for Napa Valley Cabernetis the 25-acre Bella Union Vineyard. This western bench location offers an ideal combination of cool evenings and warm afternoons, which, in turn, allows the grapes to ripen fully and evenly. The site's well-draining, gravelly loam soil plays an equally important role, contributing to the signature character of the vineyard. The fruit is intense, beautifully proportioned and complex with aromatic ripe plum, black cherry and currant flavors. This 2014 is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Malbec and 16 months in 60% new French oak barrels. The wine shows it's pedigree with deep flavors of black currant, cherry, plums toffee and toasty nuance. It's concentrated and mouth filling with lively, polished tannins. A serious Napa Cab. Just awarded 95 points from Wine Review Online who said "Bella Oaks Lane has long been coveted ground for Cabernet Sauvignon growers. So its no surprise the partners at Far Niente carved out a 25-acre plot in their never ending quest to produce ever-better Napa Valley Cab. The Bella Union Vineyard takes its name from the roads historical roots Bella Oaks Lane was originally called Bella Union and in 2014 yielded a vintage for the history books. Remarkably complex, it shows aromas of red berries, blackberry and cassis, lovely wood spice, a fair amount of heft and power, yet elegance in the fabled Far Niente vein." and Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 94 points saying "From a 25-acre site on the western flank of Rutherford, this wine includes 2% Malbec. Sanguine in cassis, cranberry and a whip of cinnamon, it's a soft, round and velvety expression of the hearty variety, with shavings of dark chocolate and cups of coffee." On SALE!
