    About Maddalena 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate Reserve, Paso Robles

    For this Estate Reserve Cab, the Riboli family sources from their vineyards, in Paso Robles are located in the El Pomar appellation of Paso Robles, neighboring Justin, Pomar Junction, and Wildhorse. The areas warm days and cool nights produce vibrant color, rich fruit, and complex structure in the grapes. All vineyard lots are fermented separately to preserve the individual flavors and terroir of each parcel. After fermentation, wines are aged in oak barrels from numerous American coopers both American and French 35% new for 24 months. This was awarded Gold in the Toast of the Coast Competition and Tasting Panel Magazine scored it 93 points saying "Ripe with gritty, grainy tannins. Tobacco and dark cherry take the lead, painting the palate with some Old World acidity. Earth and Italian herbs add another dimension. In fact, if we were blind tasting, the panel agrees we would have thought this a Tuscan gem. For Paso it's equally admirable." Beverage Testing Institute scored it 92 saying "Bright garnet black color. Pure, fruity aromas and flavors of dried berries, floral honey, herb satchel, and white clay and kidd leather with a silky, lively, fruity medium-to-full body and a smooth, compelling, medium-long choke cherry jam on toast, almond skin, and oak finish with well-integrated, fine, chewy tannins and moderate oak. A delicious, fruit-driven cabernet with fun layers of nutty oak and earthiness."
