About Chateauneuf du Pape 2015 Domaine Barville, Brotte

The Brotte family runs the largest negociant firm in Chateauneuf. Bottlers of the Pere Anselm brand among others, they also are owners of a few prime Domaines in the region and this is one of them. Domaine Barville is a 36 acre vineyard on seven plots located on the heights of Chteauneuf du Pape, with two of the oldest and best terroirs of the appellation. At over 300 feet of elevation the mistral winds blow through and cool the vines that now average 35+ years of age and give full expression. Famed Oenological Consultant Philippe Cambie oversees the winemaking. 2015 was an outstanding vintage and the WIne Advocate scored this 91-93 saying "What should be a terrific value, the 2015 Chteauneuf du Pape Domaine Barville checks in as a mix of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% Mourvdre that was completely destemmed and aged in a combination of foudre, new barrels, old barrels and concrete tanks. Its a charming, ripe, even sexy barrel sample that has terrific notes of plums, blackberries, garrigue and violets. Drink this soft, pleasure-bent beauty anytime over the coming 4-6 years.". Vinous scored this 92-94 saying "Deep ruby. Intense, deeply perfumed aromas of raspberry liqueur, potpourri and incense carry a zesty mineral overtone. Plush, broad and seamless on the palate, offering alluringly sweet dark berry and spicecake flavors and a hint of candied lavender that emerges slowly on the back half. Finishes smooth, sweet and very long, displaying great focus and gently firming, slow-building tannins. The blend of richness and vivacity here is quite impressive." A super value!
