Alexandria Nicole 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, A Squared, Horse Heaven Hills

The 327 acre Destiny Ridge Vineyard is the estate vineyard of Alexandria Nicole Cellars. Planted in the prime Horse Heaven Hills AVA on the Columbia River, this vineyard supplies grapes to many of the best wines from Washington state. Owners Jarrod and Ali Boyle started producing their own wines in the early 2000's and were named "Winery of the Year" in 2011 by  Wine Press Northwest. And still these outstanding wines seem to be a best kept secret which we are very glad to have discovered.

This A Squared Cabernet is sourced entirely from the Destiny Ridge Vineyard. It's a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot and 9% Malbec aged for 20 months in 40% new French oak barrels. The entire production of this wine was less than 650 cases which is probably why it's still under the radar while it clearly deserves to be in spotlight.

It's a bold expression of Columbia Valley Cab with layers of flavor. Black cherries, currants, plums, and black olives with vanilla and caramel notes from the oak expand on palate while ripe, round tannins create a lively mouthfeel and good balanced acidity keep the flavors fresh and vibrant. This clearly has the stuffings to mature in your cellar for another 4-6 years as well but it drinks so beautifully now you may not be able to wait.
