About Antica 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, Atlas Peak, Napa Valley

The Antinori Estate is in Atlas Peak on the east side of Napa Valley, the same region as the famous Stagecoach vineyard. The estate vineyards are on slopes up to 1,800 feet above the Napa Valley floor, in the volcanic soil series Boomer Gravelly Loam, Perkins Gravelly Loam and Aiken Loam. The vineyards are planted between various distinct Cabernet Sauvignon clones, providing further complexity in aromatics and flavors.

The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for this wine came entirely from these estate vineyards with vines averaging 16-years of age and were harvested from fourteen vineyard blocks that each have their own identifiable qualities. In the excellent 2014 vintage the fruit enjoyed a long, slow ripening period through September and into October and ripened fully to provide dark color, rich varietal purity, and ageworthiness. Grapes from each block were vinified separately with maceration up to 14 days. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was then aged 22 months in 50% new French oak barrels.

Antonio Galloni scored it 91 saying "Antica's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is dark, bold and intense, with plenty of black cherry, plum, mocha and new oak nuances woven throughout. Deceptively medium in body, the 2014 packs serious punch, especially within the context of the vintage. All the 2014 needs is a bit more time to fully absorb the oak. Even so, it is quite tasty today."

and James Suckling scored it 93 saying "Aromas of currants and blueberries with hints of dark chocolate. Medium to full body, round tannins and a savory finish. Drink or hold."
